Meet the (extended) Family

Geoffrey Thorne

Geoff has been associated with funerals all his life being the son of a funeral director. On leaving school, he spent four years in London training at two large funeral directors. Returning to the family business in Alton as a fully qualified Embalmer, then gaining the Diploma in Funeral Directing. Geoff was the 31st member to join the British Institute of Funeral Directors on its formation and continues to be a licenced member. Geoff enjoys target shooting and historical re-enactment and spending time with his family, especially his young grandchildren.

Gill Thorne

When Gill married Geoff in 1978, she was completing her nursing training. After their two sons started school, she undertook her training for the Diploma in Funeral Directing, which she gained in 1988 (when women diploma holders were fairly few) Gill helps to run the family business, Kemp & Stevens in Alton and supports Geoff and the team at Thorne-Leggett. Gill takes a special interest in Pre-planning funerals with clients. Gill is a Girl’s Brigade leader, a WI member and a trustee for a local almshouse charity. She also likes to spend time with the family.

Simon Goff

Simon grew up in Farnham and was educated at All Hallows School. Simon first gained experience in the funeral industry with Geoff’s father at their family business, Kemp & Stevens. In 2009, on the retirement of David Leggett he joined Geoff at Thorne-Leggett, to learn more about the business and train for the Diploma in Funeral Directing, which he gained in 2012. Simon is a licenced member of the British Institute of Funeral Directors. Simon enjoys travelling, walking his dog and spending time with family and friends.

Robin Thorne

Geoff & Gill’s youngest son, Robin, grew up and was educated in Alton. He joined the family business in 2000. He holds the Diploma in Funeral Directing and is a licensed member of the British Institute of Funeral Directors. Robin is the general manager and principle funeral director at Kemp & Stevens in Alton. He is often on hand to assist at Thorne-Leggett. Robin is married to Megan and they enjoy dog walking and socialising.

Claire Greenshields

Claire came to work at Thorne-Leggett in 2012, taking up her role as receptionist and admin assistant in the Whitehill office. Claire has always lived in the area and she possesses an invaluable knowledge of the local area and its people. In her spare time, Claire enjoys photography and is much valued in her role as secretary to her local branch of the British Legion.

Michael Thorne

Geoff & Gill’s eldest son, Michael, grew up and was educated in Alton. Michael joined the family firm in Alton in 1998. He holds the Diploma in Funeral Directing and is a qualified Memorial fixer. Michael runs K & S Memorials, serving the memorial needs of Thorne-Leggett clients. He is married to Kate and they have two children. Michael is very much a family man who enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family.

Laura Spooner

Laura is the latest edition to the team, joining in 2013 and qualified in the Diploma in Funeral Service in 2015. She was brought up in Headley and now lives in Aldershot. Laura previously worked in the Nursing Home sector, where she specialised in end of life care. Having experienced the loss of her parents at a young age, she is well equipped to help families with making funeral arrangements in their time of need. Laura is an animal lover and enjoys socialising with her friends.

How much does a funeral cost?

It is our policy to be open and informative about the funeral costs from the outset. Our costs are divided into three main groups.

Floral tributes

Through local florists, we can arrange traditional wreathes, posies and coffin sprays as well as specialist tributes such as words and animal shapes.
